Lesson Plan: Cold War Strategies in Action
Breakdown
This lesson plan was created for a sophomore Modern Global Studies course. This is a discourse/ syntax based lesson. Students have previously been exposed to a lesson about the six strategies associated with the Cold War: foreign aid, espionage, brinkmanship, propaganda, multinational alliances, surrogate wars. The students will take a short reading quiz containing information from previous classes, followed by a review of the strategies. Once the strategies are reviewed, students will be able to partake in the stations activity that allows them to view seven separate events: the Berlin Airlift, Korean War, Sputnik, U-2 Incident, Marshall Plan, Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Berlin wall. This will be done in groups to encourage collaboration and deeper analysis of the materials at each station. At each station is a set of materials for students to analyze which will assist them in answering the associated guided reading questions. At the end of the lesson, is a Google Forms formative assessment for the students to complete.
