Lesson Plan: Iran Deal
Before this lesson, the students have been exposed to two videos giving background information about the history of Iran, in addition background information of the problems associated with the Iran Nuclear Deal. Students have previously answered questions such as “What are centrifuges?” “What does enriching uranium mean?” “How does this pose a problem to the United States?”, etc. in order to grasp the main ideas associated with the material.
Breakdown:
This lesson is a nonfiction literacy/ close reading based lesson. For this lesson students will be jigsawing an article into four separate groups where each group will give to the class their own created timeline. From their generated timelines, we as a class will generate an overarching timeline associated with the Iran nuclear deal which will be shared via Google Classroom. After creating the timeline, the students will look at three separate political cartoons, where they will answer associated questions pertaining to the images. Finally, the students will, after viewing all the material in class, will answer the question, “Do you think that the United States should be in the Iran deal?”
