Summative Assessment: Piktochart
Piktochart– This was implemented for a semester-long Civics and International Relations class of juniors and seniors. In the beginning of the semester students, were allowed to choose a topic that they would research throughout the semester to complete current event assignments. The ideas chosen varied; North Korea, Healthcare, Immigration, the United States Economy, Terrorism, etc.
When this summative assessment was created, students had already gathered information from credible news sources to which they evaluated each of the sources found. The unit that this assessment fell under was the methods of Foreign Policy used by the United States to achieve its goals abroad, where students grappled with methods of diplomacy, economic pressures, and military engagement that the United States uses to achieve its goals abroad.
For this assessment each student was required to create an online infographic about their chosen topic from the beginning of the semester. They were then asked to highlight three methods of foreign policy that the United States has used in order to achieve their goal. Finally, the students needed to evaluate the strategies they found.
Here is the link to the Rubric and below are some student examples.
*Modified Assessment:
During my student teaching experience I had the pleasure of working with a few exceptional learners. These exceptional learners required differentiated and modified instructions in order to better assist them to grasp ideas and concepts. For the modified assessment, the student created a piktochart where the instructions differed in their creation. The exceptional learner needed to define methods of diplomacy, economic pressures, and military involvement. They were also required to justify which of these methods of foreign policy was in their opinion, the most effective. Their work and rubric are seen below. Enjoy!
